2 Rounding to the Nearest Ten
When rounding two digit numbers to the 10’s, always look at the digit in the one’s place. When rounding, stay in the same ten or go up a ten. Example: Let’s round 38 to the nearest ten. Tens Ones Rule #1: If my number is 4 or smaller in the ones place, I stay in the same ten. Rule #2: If my number is 5 or bigger, I go up a ten. 38

3 40 38 30 The eight in the one’s place is larger than 4, I go to the next ten, which is 40.
