5 Healthy Relationships and Development
A supportive community means respecting others and their differences, helping others in need, and showing care for others. Brainstorm a list of people inside and outside of the school who they have a relationship with, and who help support their emotional health and development. Record responses on one colour of scrap paper.

6 Healthy Relationships and Development
Next, brainstorm possible challenges that might arise within their various relationships. Record responses on a second colour of scrap paper. Do not include names/specifics on the examples you provide.

7 Healthy Relationships and Development
I will select one paper of each colour and read out loud the scenario that is created by combining one relationship card and one challenge card. Let’s brainstorm suggestions for overcoming the challenge.

8 Healthy Relationships and Development
Everyone will now get a relationship card or a challenge card. Form small groups – ensuring every group has students with both colours of the papers. Match papers of the two colours to create a scenario and apply self-awareness skills as you brainstorm possible responses. Record your possible responses on chart paper.

9 Healthy Relationships and Development
Each group then teams up with another group and shares their scenario and list of possible responses. Groups identify one response from their peer group’s scenario you want them to act out, and vice versa. Return to your home groups and create a short skit acting out the scenario along with an appropriate response, as identified for you by your peer group.

10 Healthy Relationships and Development
After each skit, we will examine the decision that the group made, while also identifying other options, their possible consequences, and their anticipated impact on healthy emotional development.
