Known as: “Land of the Midnight Sun” In midsummer months, the Sun never sets In midwinter months, the Sun never rises Long jagged coastline, that includes many fjords (Steep sided valleys)

Parliamentary Democracy Has a monarchy but is governed by elected prime minister Voted not to join European Union

6 Welfare State Uses high rates of taxation to provide services to people who are sick, needy, jobless or retired

7 Finland Large unspoiled wilderness Heavy industry drives the economy
Republic The president, who is the head of state, is elected by popular vote to a six-year term and is eligible for a second term. The prime minister, appointed by the president from the parliamentary majority and confirmed by Parliament, is the head of government.
