1 Samung Island Laying in the Pacific Ocean less than 125 miles east of Manila, this island is an enchanting combination of white sand beaches, basalt rock formations, and green hills with coconut trees.

2 Tropical Island This tropical island is 1 km in length and 90 m at the highest point. The island is 40 hectares, 24 hectares is agricultural land. The island has a particular wild beauty about that is complemented by its relative remoteness from any other land. The nearest island is more than 3.5 miles away. This ensures privacy of living on the island. Under water around the island there are colorful corals and plenty of tropical fish and other sea animal species.

4 A seven feet deep cemented water well located at the back of the main beach can provide hundreds of liters of fresh water per day, even during the dry season. There are two other sites on the island which potentially can be used to collect additional quantities of fresh water if required.

5 The island lies in the path of the northwest trade winds ensuring a mild ocean climate. The monsoon(rainy) season is from September to January . Distance from Manila 200 km, distance from eastern shore of Luzon 20 km.

8 History of the island It is not known when the island was discovered and why it was named Samung as local people call it. In fact there are several variations of the island’s name. On the map from the book called The Philippine Islands written in 1899 by English traveller John Foreman it is called Samun. Other maps show the island as Samar or Samur. Geographically Samung Island is situated near Calaguas Islands, officially it is located in barangay (village) Maculabu municipality of Paracale province of Camarines Norte.

10 How to get to Samung Island
Philippines Airlines have regular flights from Manila to Daet, the capital of the province which take only 40 minutes. Daet airport is situated 700 feet from the beach where an outrigger boat can be hired to get to the island. It usually takes less than two hours to cover about 30 miles from there to Samung Island. An alternative route is to travel for one and half hours by bus or car from Daet to Paracle and then one hour by boat. There is an airstrip in Paracle which can be reached in 1 hour from Manila by small chartered plane.

12 Information for foreigners
Foreigners can own real estate in the Philippines by setting up a company and registering the property purchase in that company name. If the new owner wish non residents buyers can acquire Samung Island together with the current company owner at no extra charge. Such acquisition will involve simple transfer of company shares from the current shareholders to the buyer. This would allow to avoid the cost and hassle of setting up a new company for registering the property. The annual cost of maintaining a company in the Philippines including accountant and lawyer fees is approximately $600 USD.
