General Goals of the ESL Academy
Provide a stimulating and motivational learning environment Provide students with the cultural knowledge and awareness which they will need to function satisfactory, both academically and socially, in the USA Prepare students with academic skills and strategies which will help them to be successful in their college studies Teach diversity and promote respect and appreciation of different cultures

Attendance Requirements
10% of class participation is counted toward the final grade Students with excessive absences will get a warning and if the situation does not improve the following Quarter the students will be placed on probation during which a decision may be made about the continued enrollment at Computer Systems Institute.

Grade Requirement According to USCIS an international student should maintain GPA no lower than 2.0 That means each student should get A, B, or C as a final grade for the class Those students who get any grade below C - will get a warning and if the situation happens again will be placed on probation. If the student gets three failing grades in a row s/he will be expelled from school

How we will calculate the final grade?
Midterm Exam – 35% Final Exam – 35% Participation – 10 % Lab Assignments – 20%

New Academic Policies! In Intensive English Program if the student fails a course by getting D or F, he/she will be on academic warning for one quarter and will re-take the course next year Lab Assignments count for 20% of the class final grade. Lab assignments will be evaluated by the instructor.

Language Lab Students in Intensive English Program should come to school for the lab hours he/she has signed up for and do the TMM exercises and all the exercises that the instructor assigns Students in Academic English Program should do the instructor’s assignments during the lab As an option the student also can read the book of his/her interest and work on vocabulary during lab hours at school Lab assignments stand for 20% of the Final Grade! Lab assignments will be graded based on TMM progress and additional exercises assigned by the ESL instructor on a weekly basis.

Activities that can be done in Lab
Class assignments. Pronunciation Exercises Tell Me More Independent Reading No video games! All lab materials should be in English.

Pronunciation Software!
The students may choose to work on pronunciation during the lab hours by using our new Pronunciation Software American Speechsounds!

Tell Me More TMM licenses are opened the 1st week of the quarter for Intensive English Program students (Fundamental, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) only! Students who registered late may have a delay in the opening of Tell Me More accounts. Campus manager/Dean will provide the student with the list of links to work on during the first week of the Quarter. The User Name is the First Name and the Last Name of the student and the Password is el1111. The password is the same for each student. For example, User name: Samuel Bandy Password: el1111

TOEFL PREP On-Line! The students can purchase an access to the TOEFL PREP on-line courses and use it during the lab hours! Schedule an appointment with the campus manager/dean for more details!

CSINOW.EDU accounts Every student at CSI has a csinow.edu account to communicate with other students and instructors. CSI administration will also communicate with students through csinow.edu account Your user name is: First and Last names without the space If you are a returning student your password is the same as before (first letter of your first name, first letter of your last name and last four digits of your student ID) If you are a new student your password is your initials and 6 digits of your Student ID number. Your student ID number is on your class schedule receipt and Student ID

Student Portal Each student can see the attendance, grades, and other records through the student portal Step 1: Go to esl.csinow.edu; Click Current Students tab; click on My Progress Portal Step 2: To log-in to “My Student Portal” – first time users must log-in and fill out the required information before they have an access Step 3: Systems log-in was successful if your first and last name appears on the page. IF IT IS NOT YOUR NAME, please log-out and contact your campus manager/dean for assistance
