When teaching this song to children, I would start off by asking if anybody goes camping. Once the children have discussed, I would ask them the types of things we might do, until we get to singing songs around the campfire.
Once we have spoken about this, relating camping to something that might be scary or exciting to them, I will play them “Kum Ba Yah”.
I will explain that the song was used to keep children happy and calm, and make them have no fear. This will lead into how Christians may use it now.

When teaching this song to children, I would start off by asking if anybody knows who Shiva might be. Once the children have discussed, I would ask them the type of people we meet within religion, until we get to the importance of God.
Once we have spoken about this, I will play them “Shiva”, and ask them what they think the song might be about.
I will explain that the song was used to worship Shiva, and how important Shiva was. This will lead into a range of religious songs that worship leaders.
