6 Alcohol Overdose Can take 90 minutes after you stop drinking before highest level of intoxication – Really drunk before you actually know it! Women more susceptible than men – but guys aren’t off the hook either! The biggie: Choking to death on your own vomit

7 Signs of Alcohol Overdose
Symptoms of alcohol poisoning: Vomiting Passed out Difficult to awaken Slow, shallow breathing Confusion Seizures Slow breathing (less than eight breaths a minute) Irregular breathing (a gap of more than 10 seconds between breaths) Blue-tinged skin or pale skin Low body temperature (hypothermia) What to do? Stay with the person Put in recovery position Help for help

Alcohol most common drug used in acts of sexual violence/assaults You can’t consent when you’re drunk Judgment and behavior impacted by alcohol/other drugs Alcohol may increase risk of unwanted sexual activity – You did WHAT with WHO? What about condom use and safer sex? Difficult to communicate limits Regrets – Oh God!

10 Mixing Alcohol & Other Drugs
Alcohol and other drugs can intensify effects of one another Marijuana – increase sedation (what a party killer) Cocaine – increase blood pressure/heart attack and stroke risk (not so good!) Sedatives – Severe drowsiness/depressed heart rate/pulmonary functions (definitely not so good!) Opiates – sedation (risk of overdose) Ecstasy – Russian Roulette

11 Reducing Risks Choose to not use – you’re not alone!
Respect other’s choices – don’t pressure others Don’t feel pressured Slow your drinking – one per hour Alternate with water and/or pop Eat food – slow absorption Set a certain number/point (yes really!) Avoid shots/chugging/drinking games Don’t mix alcohol and other drugs Avoid driving (it really ain’t worth it) Have a buddy and/or safety system Designate a ‘sober’ partier – volunteer yourself!
