2 Library – A learning common area
A learning commons is a "place of teaching and learning, group work, collaboration, creativity, change, inquiry, communication, and community. ASLC

3 Library - Resource Centre
"The learning commons, sometimes called an 'information commons,' has evolved from a combination library and computer lab into a full-service learning, research, and project space." -Educause

4 Library & Students The learning commons model places a greater view on students, accessibility, cultivating community, project-based learning, flexibility, knowledge seeking, and exploration.

5 Vision To enable this to happen in a space that has previously been labelled as a traditional Library there are number of key actions or steps that would need to be enabled for it to take place. How discuss with school community what they would like to see in a library increase student accessibility and input flexibility of space need to create a collaborative space the establishment of a makerspace where students can create. to provide learning opportunities to develop expert learners

7 Maker Spaces These maker spaces, as defined by Project New Media Literacies, can provide collaborative learning by: Heightened motivation and new forms of engagement through meaningful play and experimentation Learning that feels relevant to students’ identities and interests Opportunities for creating using a variety media, tools and practices Co-configured expertise where educators and students pool their skills and knowledge and share in the tasks of teaching and learning An integrated system of learning where connections between home, school, community and world are enabled and encouraged

8 TinkerSpace TinkerSpace - a school library can weave making and creating into the library learning environment including STEM - Science Technology Engineering & Maths STEAM - Science Technology Engineering Arts & Maths Bringing tinkering spaces into the library.

9 Library - Play PLAY, which stands for Participatory Learning and YOU.

10 Ideas - Traditional Integrating traditional with digital technologies
Book groups Lyrical Lunches Student Art Exhibits Book Trailer Swap Use QR codes, digital images, Photostories, Garage band, podcasts, videos…….

Involving the students by getting them to volunteer in the library. Returning books Displays Buddy reading

12 Student Leaders Digital Leaders, Mentors, Experts, Facilitators in events and activities. Focus group of students to conduct monthly meetings to inform programming ideas and continued updates. Like Genius hour Code hour TOMS Book Creator Blogging

13 Families & Community Providing evening, afternoon, morning programmes to include families/community Literary movie nights Poetry Slam Maker Fair Gaming Night Student/Parent Book Group Social Media 101 (intros)

14 Staff How to work with staff as a
Resource manager – including ordering Researcher – helping teachers with topics Supporter – Group work Collaborator – developing units of work with teachers Facilitator – new learning especially in digital areas
