1 Interactions with the Physical Environment
CGC1P Unit 1

2 The Big Question Remember this question?
How does the physical environment affect where Canadians live?

3 The Smaller Questions Remember these questions?
In what ways is the physical geography of the area in which you live typical of all of Canada? In what ways is it different? How does Canada’s physical geography make Canada unique in the world? How do our patterns of physical geography contribute to where people live in Canada?

4 Review Breakdown Provinces- locate on a map
Capital Cities of each Province- named at least How to read a map- let’s practice Different types of maps- what are they, what do they show, how do we read them

5 Review Breakdown Isodemographic Map Population Density
Population Distribution (continuous ecumene, discontinuous ecumene) Census Metropolitan Areas (CMA’s)- what are the patterns and trends of Canada’s population distribution Rural Settlement Patterns

6 Review Breakdown Physical environment- Plate Tectonics- different types of plate movement Landform Regions of Canada- what, where, why? Lets spend some time on this for a second: Climate regions and characteristics of Canada- LOWERN. Continental and Maritime, Climate Graphs, regional characteristics

7 Quiz Breakdown Knowledge- Terms/Concepts- Matching
Thinking/Inquiry- Analysis and Evaluation- Maps, Climate Graphs Communication- Expression and Organization of Ideas- Proper opinion response (9 sentence paragraph) Application- Comparison of two different maps- applying patterns and trends, making climate graphs and statistics

8 Terms Population Density Landforms Isodemographic Map Plate Tectonics

9 Reading Maps and Climate Graphs
You will see a map on your test and you will simply have to answer the questions related to the map What do you HAVE to know in order to read a map? Climate Graphs- see handout- For the graphs A- H- determine whether they are continental or maritime climate locations.

10 Organizing and Expressing and Opinion
9 sentence paragraph- What do we need to be successful on this? What will be the question???

11 Application Comparing two different maps
Identifying Trends or Patterns Making and analyzing a climate graph
