2 Operations of Fractions

3 Bell Ringer: Page 55 in JBHM binder (DOK 2)

4 Focus/Introduction: Remember that you have added, subtracted, and multiplied fractions and/or mixed numbers. Today, we will divide fractions and/or mixed numbers. Can you imagine why we need to divide these kinds of numbers?

5 Guided Practice/Strategies: (DOK 1)

6

7 Steps for dividing Proper Fractions:
The first fraction stays the same. Change the division sign to a multiplication sign. Find the reciprocal of the second fraction (flip it). Multiply Simplify, if necessary.

8 Strategy for Dividing Fractions:
KFC Keep---Flip---Change Keep the 1st fraction Flip the 2nd fraction Change the division sign to a multiplication sign.

15 Dividing Mixed Numbers:
The fist fraction stays the same. (Change any mixed number to an improper fraction.) Change the division sign to a multiplication sign. Find the reciprocal of the second fraction after changing it to an improper fraction if needed. (Flip it) Multiply Simplify the answer if necessary. (In other words, change them to improper fractions and KFC them!!!)

18 Independent Practice: (DOK 2)
Work problems 7 through 16 on page 286 in Envision textbook.

19 Closure: NO.1f Add, subtract, multiply, and divide (with and without remainders) using non-negative rational numbers. (Note: Focusing on fractions) (DOK 1) Does anyone have any questions about what we have gone over this week?

20 *If time permits, “I Have, Who Has?” card game for P.A.T. time.
