What is a sentence? A sentence a.k.a. independent clause, consists of: + Subject Verb The subject is involved in the action The verb IS the action

3 Let’s See it in Action… The Flushing H.S. Teachers defeated the Flushing High School students. Subject= ___________ (Who?) Verb= ____________ (What did they do?) Mr. Chin addressed the whole school. Verb= ____________ (What did he/she do?)

5 Adding Subordining Conjunctions to Your Writing
What happens when we add a subordinating conjunction to the sentence. While Ms. Jean addressed the entire class.

6 Subordinating Conjunctions
Whenever you add a subordinating conjunction in front of a subject and a verb (a sentence) , you no longer have a complete thought. Subordinate clauses are sometimes referred to as dependent clauses.
