2 Decisin 6: major achievements (I)
South-South Cooperation Conference on Sustainable Consumption and Production in Brazil, April 2017. More than 200 participants from Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean, from 45 countries, 9 Cooperation Agencies and 5 Development Banks. Exchange of best practices, identification of possible areas for cooperation and opportunities for financing SCP. Launching E-learning Course "Practical Approaches and Tools for Sustainable Consumption and Production in Latin America and the Caribbean" with UNITAR. Available in English and Spanish, with 60 participants, Replicability and scalability: identify specific areas and opportunities for funding and cooperation in SCP. Expand learning opportunities on SCP in the region. 2

Replicability and scalability: Build alliances with GIZ, OAS, IDB, ECLAC to support new countries and sub-regions. Concrete synergies with ozone programs, health, infrastructure. Increase involvement of the private sector and SMEs Inter-ministerial cooperation 4

Advancing on National SCP Action Plans in more than 10 countries, And implementation of two pilots projects : Colombia: Waste management in the sub-sectors of prepared foods and dishes in Bogotá. Honduras: National Action Plan on Consumption and Sustainable Production. Replicability and scalability: Using tools with a life cycle approach and working with value chain partners provides great opportunities for greening a sector. E.g. Handle waste "from the producer to after the plate". Promote South-South cooperation for the implementation of SCP. E.g. exchange of experiences between Governments of Chile and Brazil for the National Plan of Action on SCP of Honduras. Enhance inter-ministerial cooperation 5

International Workshop on “Challenges and Opportunities of Sustainable Agrifood Systems in Latin America” (Panamá, June 2017) The Meeting of the International Resource Panel will be held in Lima (November 20-24, 2017). 7 Sustainable Consumption and Production in the Forum of Ministers since 2002
Since 2002 ILAC recognizes SCP as an “operative-directive” 2003. The Regional Council on Government Experts on SCP is approved and the SCP Regional Strategy adopted. In the Forums of 2005 (Venezuela), (Dominican Republic), 2009 (Panama), 2012 (Ecuador), 2014 (Mexico) y 2017 (Colombia) there was an SCP Decision. Main achievements: Creation and implementation of the Regional Council of Government Experts on SCP Adoption of the SCP Regional Strategy Support for the adoption of the Ten Year Framework of Programs on Consumption and Sustainable Production (10YFP) in Rio + 20. The elaboration of National Plans/Policy on SCP in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Barbados, Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Uruguay, Dominican Republic and Honduras (in development). 7

8 Synergies of SCP with other decisions of the Regional Forum
Decision 2: ILAC Indicators Joint work between the Regional Council of Government Experts on SCP and the Working Group on Environmental Indicators. 16 prioritized indicators and methodological sheets under development. Decision 7: Climate Change SCP Side Event in Habitat III (Quito, October 2016). Two IKI projects in Peru and Chile Development of proposals on sustainable and low carbon cities. Decision 8: Chemicals and Waste Seminar on municipal organic waste management in the Southern Cone, within the framework of the Waste Expo Brasil 2017 (Sao Paulo, November 2017). Decision 11: Oceans Initiative for the reduction of marine litter with SCP approaches. 8

9 SCP and the global and regional environmental policy agenda
Latin American and Caribbean Sustainable Development Initiative - ILAC Advancing in the work of SCP indicators, and harmonizing them with SDG 12 indicators related to SCP. High Level Political Forum 2018  SCP progress report (2018) on SDG 12, 11, 8 and 9. The 10YFP Secretariat is working with the countries of the region on the SDG Pilot Report 12.1 (implementation of the 10YFP at the national level). Forum of the Latin American and Caribbean Countries on Sustainable Development This Forum endorses Agenda 2030 (ODS 12). Key issues to address with SCP: Gender equality, life-cycle approach, social inclusion and multilateral cooperation.  UNEA 3  Priority challenges = pollution, climate change, environmental degradation and ecosystem degradation. Determination, collaboration, generation and exchange of knowledge, innovation and clean technologies = opportunities. 9

10 Recommendations and opportunities
Implementing SCP in a more integrated and coherent way, bringing together different tools and approaches, which allow the objectives of other decisions to be reached together. Private Sector Involvement - Promote high-level dialogue, position SCP in key private sector initiatives, work with associations and chambers. Implement sustainable public procurement by prioritizing goods and services that address the reduction of contaminants included in multilateral agreements, conventions and regulations. Promote business models that generate eco-efficient and eco-innovative goods and services – which could reduce pollutants, promote circular economy and create green jobs. 10
