3 ATHLETIC POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A & B PRACTICE TIMES: 7th Grade: 3:35 – 5:15 PM (Mon/Tues); 3:35 – 5 PM (FRI) 8th Grade: 6:30 – 8:00 AM (Mon/Tues); 7-8 AM (FRI) WED = All A/B 7/8th 6: AM GO = 7th and 8th = Monday = 5:30 – 6:30 PM Wednesday = 3:35 – 5:00 PM ** ALL PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY ** A/B PLAYERS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR SCHEDULED SATURDAY TOURNAMENTS

PLEASE PICK UP ATHLETES IN LOWER PARKING LOT NO LATER THAN 15 MINUTES AFTER SCHEDULED PRACTICE TIME ENDS PLEASE CALL OR ASAP IF AN ATHLETE WILL MISS PRACTICE/GAME

5 Athletic Policies and Procedures
GO-TEAM LATE PRACTICE PROCEDURES FOR MONDAY PRACTICES: 1. If possible, we would like your student athlete to go home and come back 2. If not, your daughter is to report to the locker room no later than 3:35 and remain in there to complete homework. Academic coaching sessions or other Bush related extra-curricular opportunities are also encouraged to fill this time. 3. If an athlete can not adhere to these expectations (i.e. wandering hallways, lingering in the foyer, or disrupting A/B practices), a parent will be contacted and she will have to go home and return to school at the scheduled practice time of 5:30 PM

6 Parent Communication via Email
The most effective means of communication with our coaching staff is via . You can expect a response in under 24 hours. We expect notification prior to an athlete not attending practice/game Please contact the grade level and team coach directly: EX. 7th A-Team = Coach Lopez.

7 ATHLETIC POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE ALL PLAYERS TO STAY AND SUPPORT THEIR TEAMMATES THROUGH ALL GAMES IF AN ATHLETE MUST LEAVE AFTER HER GAME, WE REQUIRE PARENTS TO SIGN-OUT WITH HER COACH (GRADE AND TEAM ASSIGNMENT COACH) Athletes will only be released to their parents

ELIGIBILITY: ALL CLASSES MUST BE PASSED OR THE STUDENT MUST SIT OUT FOR 3 WEEKS FROM COMPETITION (PRACTICES ARE STILL REQUIRED)

9 TEAM DISMISSAL VIOLATION OF ANY NEISD POLICY
(DRUGS, WEAPONS, ALCOHOL, HAZING) ABSENCES FROM PRACTICE (3 UNEXCUSED) TARDIES TO PRACTICE (3 T’S = 1 ABSENCE) DISCIPLINE PROBLEMS ON CAMPUS, IN THE CLASSROOM, OR AT PRACTICE/GAMES THEFT LACK OF EFFORT

10 REMINDERS IF YOUR DAUGHTER IS INVOLVED IN MULTIPLE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES, IT IS HER RESPONSIBILITY TO COMMUNICATE WITH HER COACH. EACH ATHLETE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCKING UP HER BELONGINGS DURING PRACTICE. COACHES WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOSSES. Leaving AM practice early to attend morning coaching, requires a parent note/ . It is NOT permitted the day before a game (exceptions on indiv. basis only).

11 REMINDERS NO JEWELRY MAY BE WORN DURING PRACTICE OR GAMES
P.E. OR ATHLETIC UNIFORMS ARE REQUIRED DURING PRACTICE. ATHLETIC T-SHIRT IS REQUIRED FOR ATHLETIC PERIOD PARTICIPATION

12 TEAM SELECTION USUALLY 50-70 PARTICIPANTS PER GRADE LEVEL
A-TEAM = 10 PLAYERS (VBALL) 10 PLAYERS (BBALL) B-TEAM = PLAYERS (VBALL) 10-12 PLAYERS (BBALL) GO TEAM = REMAINING PARTICIPANTS *Usually play on rotational basis due to large numbers * Go team coach will provide that schedule once teams have been established

13 TEAM SELECTION TEAMS ARE ASSIGNED ACCORDING TO SKILL LEVEL, POSITIONING, AND ATHLETIC ABILITY PLAYERS MAY BE MOVED UP OR DOWN DURING THE COURSE OF THE SEASON

14 Game Day Snacks Game day snacks are encouraged on an individual basis – you may deliver to the main office 8th period or pack a snack Athletes may eat on the bus as long as trash is thrown away appropriately Game day snacks will not be provided to the team as a whole

15 WATER Please have your daughter bring her own labeled water bottle to practice and games Games: Refill Jugs always available Practices: Refill at water fountains

Please note, if parent(s) would like to provide goodie bags etc. it needs to be for the entire team……we do not want A,B, Go teams recognized separately…….ALL OR NONE……..REMEMBER ALL IS APPROX ATHLETES 

17 COACHES’ ROLES SET A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR PLAYERS AND SPECTATORS
BE POSITIVE, FAIR, AND CONSISTENT WITH PLAYERS MAKE PLAYING TIME AND STRATEGY DECISIONS WITH THOUGHT AND CARE

18 COACHES’ ROLES ESTABLISH AND ORGANIZE PRACTICE FOR THE TEAM ON A DAILY BASIS BE AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR WITH PLAYERS AND PARENTS PROTECT THE SAFETY OF ALL ATHLETES

19 COACHES’ ROLES INFORM PLAYERS OF ALL EXPECTATIONS, PROCEDURES, AND RULES PROVIDE ALL PLAYERS/PARENTS WITH PRACTICE AND GAME/MEET SCHEDULES

20 PARENTS’ ROLES BE A FAN OF EVERYONE ON THE TEAM
RESPECT THE DECISION OF OFFICIALS RESPECT OTHER FANS, COACHES, AND PLAYERS

22 PARENTS’ ROLES UNDERSTAND THAT PLAYING TIME IS BASED ON ABILITY AND WILL NOT ALWAYS BE EQUAL ON THE A AND B SQUADS. WHEN GAME SITUATIONS PERMIT, COACHES WILL DO THEIR BEST TO PROVIDE ALL PARTICIPANTS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE.

30 2017 Basketball Start Date Monday, Nov. 13th:
7th = 3:35 – 5:15 PM and 8th = 6:30 – 8 AM - Have name clearly marked on the back of t-shirt below shoulders………tape works great! - All paperwork (including physical) must be turned in for school year to try-out: including on-line pre-participation form - Practice/Game schedule: posted on web and hard copies available
