1 Invasive breast cancer. A
Invasive breast cancer. A. Mammogram showing a spiculated mass with poorly defined borders that is characteristic of an invasive breast cancer. B. Invasive ductal carcinoma gross pathology. An unfixed biopsy specimen illustrates the gross pathologic correlates of the mammogram. The hard white invasive cancer extends into the breast in all directions with no defined border and numerous stellate extensions. C. Normal breast histopathology. The ducts are shown cut in cross section lined with a single layer of ductal epithelium. The surrounding stroma stains pink in this preparation (hematoxylin and eosin). D. Invasive ductal carcinoma histopathology. Malignant epithelial cells are characterized by large pleomorphic nuclei invading the breast stroma individually and in clusters and forming ductlike structures in some cases.
