1 Welcome to our Key Stage 1 assessment meeting

2 New assessments for Key Stage 1
What are the changes? When will the assessments take place? How are they administered? How will they be reported? Children will still be assessed by the teacher. New tests will help the teacher to make judgements against the new curriculum and the Interim Framework. Assessments will take place in May. It is important your child is in school. Tests will be administered by the class teacher. We will endeavour to make the tests as non-threatening as possible for the children, however they will be aware that they are tests. You will receive details from school on how your child has performed against the frameworks. Your child’s results also forms data that is used to judge our school against others.

3 New ways of recording attainment
There are three main standards for reading, writing and mathematics Test scores help to determine standard One standard for Science

4 The interim standards Subject Standard Maths, Writing and Reading
Working toward the expected standard Working at the expected standard Working at greater depth within the expected standard Science

5 Mathematics There are now two separate tests. 1 Arithmetic paper
1 Reasoning paper Not strictly timed, children may take a break or stop early

6 Writing No written test this year Attainment assessed by teacher
GaPS tests will also inform the level GaPS – Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. This is a new addition this year.

7 Reading Two reading comprehension papers
The role of teacher assessment How we create evidence for reading The class teacher is continually gathering evidence of your child’s reading. This is not purely from their reading books, but from class work, how they have responded orally in lessons, their writing in books (in response to reading) etc.

8 Science One level Attainment determined by teacher
Work in the classroom assessed

9 How the scoring for tests will work
Raw scores to scaled scores 100 will represent “expected standard” Your child will have their raw test scores converted to a standard that has 100 as the expected standard. Therefore, if your child is 101, they are working slightly above the expected standard and if they are 99, they are working slightly below the standard.

10 How final judgements are made
By teacher assessment using ‘interim statements.’ Tests Moderation External moderation

11 How we help your child to prepare
Assessing and planning carefully and understanding next steps throughout the year Helping children to become familiar with test formats Adult readers for maths and grammar Giving reassurance and rest breaks

12 How can you help at home? Supporting with homework
Making sure children are in school Informing the teacher if there is likely to be an absence Please talk to us if you have any worries Please see Miss Terry if you would like to discuss how you can help your child at home.

13 Any questions?
