1 Static Electricity By Christos

2 Thales of Miletus (~640-547 b.c.)
The discovery of static electricity dates from the 6th century b.c. when Thales observed the attraction between the amber and light bodies previously rubbed. Electron (Amber in Greek) Magnetic -> Magnesia in which magnetic iron ore was found.

3 How static electricity works?
When certain materials are rubbed against each other, electrons being pulled from the surface of one material and relocated on the surface of the other material.

4 Frankin’s flying kite experiment
He had attached a metal key to the end of the kite string. He noticed the hairs on the kite string stand on end, just as they would do if you combed your hair and put the comb near the string. He was able to make a spark jump from the key to his finger.

5 But how lighting Works? (The water Cycle)

6 But how lighting Works? During collisions of droplets with other moisture the electron are knocked off of the rising moisture. Freezing helps the cloud to acquire extreme charge separation The strong electric field causes the air around the cloud to "break down," allowing current to flow in an attempt to neutralize the charge separation.

7 In Conclusion Rubbing certain materials together can cause the build-up of electrical charges on the surfaces. Opposite charges attract and same charges repel. Either charge will be attracted to something of neutral charge. Sparks are an extreme case of electrons being attracted ton object that has a positive charge.
