The Holocaust is one of the few events that are specifically named in the National Curriculum for Key Stage 3. What does this suggest? Why do you think it is regarded as so significant? Task In groups discuss and decide what criteria we should use to determine if an event is of historical significance?

Did it have far reaching consequences? How did it affect people Did it change peoples lives permanently? How many people did it affect? Is it still relevant to our lives today? Can we learn lessons from the event? Are these lessons relevant to today’s society?
