The Constitution, treaties, and federal laws are the “supreme law of the land”. 14 Texas-7 principles Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear. Harry S Truman ( ), Separation of powers The idea that the power of government is separated into three branches of government: Legislative Branch – elected representatives who make or enact laws; Congress at the federal level. Executive Branch – elected and appointed individuals who enforce laws; at the federal level the President heads this branch. Judicial Branch – justices (judges) who interpret the law (through the courts); at the federal level the U.S. Supreme Court is the highest court of this branch. Link
