Teacher Planning and Management During the 2006 school year Mr. Zoilo J. Pinongcos Jr. of Leganes National High School designed and implemented a Unit Plan entitled “Barangay Ko, Tipigan Ko”. This project was conceptualized resulting from series of home visitations done. One of the purposes was to let the students value the essence of barangay as a the smallest political unit of society. Students profiled a Barangay of their choice identify the strengths and weaknesses, problems ,and suggest solutions to the local officials. They used technology to develop fully their ICT skills in informing people the status of each village. Mr. Pinongcos kept on monitoring the students whereabouts while the projects were on progress. Background & Planning The project was initiated through the collaboration of the barangay people with the Third Year Special Science Class where they used the concept learned in class to help them understand the issues they were investigating – drug addiction, teenage marriage, crime, etc. Through the P D R S they learned to plan, make decisions, solve problems, and work in teams. They also developed a sense of responsibility for their own learning. Open the Word documents at the bottom of each slide by double clicking the icons. 3 Teaching Resources Student Project Overview: The project is a form of learning that promotes social and community awareness among the students in which they adopt a barangay and conduct an assessment survey on its strengths and weaknesses. The students then present their findings and propose solutions to the different problems they have identified in the community before LGU and barangay officials. Exposure to the field and see what’s going on in the community was one way of showing how they care and vigilant with their respective barangay They also posted issues like problems, disasters etc. to alert the barangay officials to make necessary preparations in times of calamities. They applied their basic skills learned from school (learning in action) by preparing a presentation on MS Power Point the best of every barangay. Having an increase and intense contact time of students with the community gave them the chance to explore the real essence of a barrio folk. They were able to give support in any kind to poor family to help alleviate their sufferings and loneliness. The visitations made them happy and looking forward for a lighted side of life.
