1 by Quick Start Guide Android, Apple IOS & Windows 10 (+ mobile)
Here’s what you’ll need to get started: An Android (4.4+) or an Apple IOS device (IOS 9+) or a PC (Windows 10+) or Windows Tablet (10+). An active Internet connection (3G, 4G or WiFi). An Alameda County Library card or eCard. The Libby app downloaded to your device from the Apple App store, Google Play or the Microsoft Store. Here’s what you’ll need to do: Launch the Libby app and tap on the Hi button. Tap Find My Library. Libby uses your internet connection to search for your library. If the library found is an Alameda County Library, tap Yes to add the library. If you are out of range, click No and No, I’ll Search For A Library. Type Alameda in the search box, tap Search and select Alameda County Library from the list. You will be prompted for your library card. Tap add it now. Enter your card number with no blank spaces and tap Sign In. OverDrive will open your browser and take you to the Alameda County Library virtual branch. To search for a specific book, tap on the Search button and enter keywords from the title, author’s name, or subject. You can also scroll through the lists of popular or timely titles provided by OverDrive or click on Explore our collections to look for eBooks or audiobooks by genre, subject, format, popularity, or availability. Tap Refine to further limit your search. Click on the book cover for more information about the book or tap Read Sample to try it out. Once you find a book you’d like to read, tap Borrow. Titles automatically check out for 21 days. Tap the loan period if you want to lower the lending period to 7 or 14 days. Tap Borrow again to confirm your checkout then Open Book to start reading. (Just like a book in the library, someone may already have the book you want. If this is the case, you can place a hold on the material and Libby will alert you when it is yours.) Remember, future access to this book will be through the Libby app, not through the “library” on your device. Relaunch the app to continue reading. If you are not automatically returned to your reading position, tap Shelf and then Resume. Happy Reading! Menu button Tips: Returns & Renewals: Tap Shelf on the bottom of any Libby screen, tap the cover image and select Renew Loan or Return Title to Library. To use another library: You can borrow titles from as many libraries as you like. To add another card, tap the menu button then Library Cards. Tap Switch Library to move between libraries. Configure when & how titles download: Tap the menu button then Download Settings to select whether to download only when connected to WiFi (recommended). Tap on I Read on Another Device to automatically send downloads to a different device. Reading Tools: While viewing a title, tap the middle of the screen. Use the buttons that appear at the top of the screen to change the text size or background, move to a chapter, search for a word or insert a bookmark.
