I go from A to Z with all the seniors and juniors FAFSA/ FSA ID Scholarships: fastweb, Unigo, Local Scholarships Target, Reach and Safety schools College Applications College Tours College Rep Visits ACT Test Prep/ Registration

4 September Meet with college adviser
Continue to college search and to develop a list of prospective colleges Initiate contact with prospective colleges Develop a list of deadlines Attend college admissions presentations and college fairs Register for the October 28th ACT by September 22nd Review your academic records with a guidance counselor Attend a college visit day Apply for scholarships

5 October Take the ACT- October 28th Create FSA ID and file FAFSA
Begin applying to colleges and submitting scholarship applications Continue to research colleges to which you applied Research external scholarships Visit college campuses Attend a college rep visit Participate in Apply Missouri activities

6 November Register for the December 9th ACT by November 3rd
Make sure all supporting documents have made it to prospective colleges Visit college campuses Continue applying to colleges and submitting scholarship applications Re-evaluate prospective colleges

7 December Continue applying to colleges and submitting scholarship applications Make sure all supporting documents have made it to prospective colleges (ACT/SAT, transcript, fee waiver or application fee, essays, rec. letters) Study for finals!!!

9 What Colleges Consider Most
Transcript Did the student take the most difficult classes offered at their high school? Did they succeed in those classes? Extra-curricular activities Did the student have a leadership role? Was the student minimally involved in many activities, or deeply involved in a few? Test Scores ACT or SAT is acceptable. Some will want SAT II. Are the scores in range? Essay/Personal Statement Display strong writing skills? Tell a story about the student? Address the prompt? Learn something new? Interview Does the student know about the college? Do they “match” what appears on their application? Would they be a good fit at this institution? Interest Some schools consider number of visits, expressed interest, etc. Some do not. Ask.

10 FAFSA The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) determines your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Can begin to file January 1; priority deadlines may be as early as February 1. This affects your eligibility for federal funds like a Pell Grant or Access Missouri Grant Your EFC also determines how much aid institutions may offer your student FAFSA Frenzy: October 4th and 5th during Parent teacher conferences.
