Who won the 2016 election? What are your thoughts on the result?

2 Objective: Identify and describe duties of the president’s cabinet.

3 Presidential Succession
If the president: Dies, resigns, is incapacitated, is found unable to discharge his/her duties by the VP and cabinet The following people will take over presidency (18 total in line): Vice president Speaker of the house President pro tempore of the Senate Secretary of State Secretary of the Treasury

9 The Executive Office of the President
The Executive Office of the President (EOP) Created in 1939 to provide support staff to the president.  Today: about 1,800 employees. Overseen by the White House Chief of Staff, the EOP has traditionally been home to many of the President’s closest advisors. Perform a variety of specialized tasks for the president – ranging from communicating the President’s message to the American people to promoting our trade interests abroad.

10 President’s cabinet Established in Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution The Cabinet's role is to advise the President on any subject he may require relating to the duties of each member's respective office. The Cabinet includes the Vice President and the heads of 15 executive departments

The executive departments: organizations within the executive branch that carry out the work of government in many areas of public policy During Washington’s presidency, there were just three executive departments:  War, State, and Treasury Today there are 15 executive departments.   All 15 department heads are members of the cabinet

12 Independent Agencies The executive branch also includes dozens of independent agencies that help carry out federal policy.  do not fall within executive departments, but answer directly to the president.  Well-known independent agencies include: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) the Peace Corps.
