1 Important Dates Swimming starts May 9th. CANADA 150
In Math we will be starting our unit on measurement, learning about length and capacity. We will be comparing and ordering items by mathematical units. Science, this month and into June, will be learning about animals in Manitoba. Students will be researching and discovering the lifecycle of different animals, their needs, and their habitats. This too ties into our French, English and Social Studies curriculum. Again I would like to thank you for the wonderful support and care you have shown. Mme Gallagher Happy Learning! This month in English Language Arts, we will focus on writing fluency and reading non fiction books about animals in Manitoba. We also will be reading creative native legends about animals. Students will later be writing their own native animal legend. In French we continue to learn about prepositions. We also will be developing vocabulary focusing on spring and summer content, animals, and body parts. Later the students will be creating a puppet show that will be on a native legend they write. In Social Studies we will be celebrating Canada We will be reviewing our national anthem, exploring Canadian symbols, and making a birthday card for Canada. As well, we are starting a unit on the environment which that ties into other curriculum areas.. The End is Near We are coming up soon to the end of the year. Please make sure that you continue to work hard with your child at home, as we are still learning a great deal until the end of June. Please encourage your child to read every night. Read to and listen to your child read. Ask questions, make predictions, and make connections as you read. Practice those addition and subtraction facts as a way to really be ready for Grade 2 math. Help your child develop a sense of working and solving problems independently. Having parental support and open lines of communication is an essential part of any successful school year. If you have any comments, questions, concerns or would like to talk about how to better assist your child now and throughout the summer, please make an appointment to speak with me.
