5 Lead ins and punctuation
A lead in is NOT a complete sentence. It is complete once you attach it to a CD Introduce what someone says (COMMA): Trevor Burrus, a researcher at Cato Institute’s Center for Constitutional Studies, proves, “Americans use guns defensively between 830,000 and 2.45 million times a year” (Burrus). Embed the quote with your words: Americans have the right to purchase a gun under the 2nd Amendment and “use guns defensively between 830,000 and 2.45 million times a year” (Burrus). Introduce a quote with a complete sentence (COLON): The 2nd Amendment allows American citizens the right the right to bear arms: “Americans use guns defensively between 830,000 and 2.45 million times a year” (Burrus).
