3 Margins Use one inch margins at the top, bottom, left and right side of your paper. This is the default setting in MS Word 2010 Go to "Page Layout" to change margins - if you need to change the settings

4 MLA requires that your paper be double-spaced. Go to the "Home" ribbon and click line spacing button Choose 2.0 for double-spacing. Double-Spacing

5 Indentation Indent the first line of each paragraph one-half inch from the left margin. Go to the "View" ribbon and check the "ruler" box.

6 Indenting in detail Double-click to enter text

7 Page Numbers The author's name (that's you) followed by a page number should appear in the upper right corner of each page, flush with the right margin. Go to the "insert" ribbon and click on the "header" button. This will bring up a menu. At the bottom of the menu click on "Edit Header"

8 Place the works cited at the end of your paper Create a new page (Ctrl + Enter) to force a new page Type title Works Cited center on the page Double space between and within each entry on the list. If the entry extends to a second line that second line should be indented one-half inch Works Cited

9 Printing MLA guidelines state that your document be printed on white 8 1/2 x 11 paper Single sided - change the default by clicking "printer properties"
