2 Resume: Objective Outlines your career direction
Positions you as someone who fits what the employer is looking for Tailored to fit whatever you are applying for “To become employed in the highly rewarding and fast-paced field of medical research.”

3 Resume: Summary Summary of qualifications or qualifying attributes
Positions you as someone who fits what the employer is looking for Tailored to fit whatever you are applying for “Experienced Server bringing enthusiasm, dedication, and an exceptional work ethic. Trained in customer service with knowledge of French cuisine…”

4 Resume: Education Includes school name
Lists AP, honors, and any specialized courses Cumulative GPA (if it is 2.5 or above) Anticipated graduation date

5 Resume: Experience Include company name, your position, and how long you were there Consistent or extensive experience (no one-time jobs) Employment, extra curriculars, clubs List most recent first, then reverse chronological List skills gained with job duties, not just job duties Only describe duties that are relevant to what you are applying for

6 Resume: Skills Skills acquired through classes or experiences
Computer programs/typing Secondary languages Certifications (CPR, coaching, heavy machinery operation) Only describe skills that are relevant to what you are applying for

7 Resume: Achievements/Awards
Things that you have been recognized for accomplishing Academic honors Scholarships Extra-curricular/athletic honors Specialized program honors

8 Resume: Personal Qualities
Personal characteristics that are your strengths Use Personal Inventory traits Be specific—avoid overused terms Innovative, great in interpersonal situations, proactive Hardworking, responsible, respectful

9 Resume: References Must be included Professional contacts only
“References available upon request” is not ok

10 Resume design Simple, concise, and not cluttered
Font style and size must be intentional Bullet points to convey points Must be limited to one page Consider using borders or other stylistic effects

11 Who would you Hire? Read through the four resume examples and consult your hiring team. Answer the following questions: Who has the best resume? Who has the worst resume? What is effective about each? What is not effective about each?

12 Homework Resume (due 10/3-9)
Send out requests for Letters of Recommendation ASAP!!! Must receive back before 10/16-17 (Portfolio due date)

13 Write Now In your composition book, respond to the following prompt: Perceptions play a huge role in our society, though they are not always within our control. How does how you see yourself differ from how others perceive you? More importantly, which do you think has more of an influence on our lives? What makes you say so? Word count: 100+
