1 Daily Warm Up Draw two things that contrast each other.
Contrast: the state of being strikingly different from something else (light and dark, or big and small, etc.)

2 Day 7: Contrast and Emphasis

3 Contrast Man Ray, Gift, 1958

4 Contrast is the arrangement of opposite elements to create visual interest. Light vs. Dark Rough vs. Smooth Large vs. Small etc. Contrast can also be achieved through subject matter The title of this artwork, "The GIft", belies its content and presents a contrast between our idea of what a gift is and what this object represents. An iron, normally used to press clothing, is lined with tacks that would prevent normal use of the object. Man Ray offers us a visual pun and a Surrealist viewpoint of life

5 EMPHASIS Emphasis is a principle of art that occurs any time an element in an artwork is given dominance by the artist. In other words, the artist makes part of the artwork stand out in order to draw the viewer’s eye there first. This is also known as a focal point.

6 Contrast of color temperature
EMPHASIS Artists use contrast to create emphasis. Contrast of shape Contrast of color temperature Contrast of value

7 Contrast of size and space
Contrast of color intensity

8 Directions Use contrast to emphasize your subject in your artwork.
This mean that you must make your subject the focal point.
