3 10/04/12 1H 2015 Highlights Successful Summit in Vancouver! Best feedback we’ve received to date Interoperability testing for OpenStack Powered products now available based on DefCore policy Forrester report, “OpenStack is Ready – Are you?” Strong collaboration with working groups, such as enterprise, ops and product teams Google sponsorship of Foundation, building story around containers and application development

5 10/04/12 Hot Issues: Issues Interop efforts running into headwind with high rate of “flagged” Defcore tests Inconsistency between projects (APIs etc) Confusion around the “big tent” vs “defcore” OpenStack demand still growing faster than talent pool Cross project divergence means: headaches for operators and barriers for app ecosytem development

6 Hot Issues: Action Plan
10/04/12 Hot Issues: Action Plan Issues Interop efforts running into headwind with high rate of “flagged” Defcore tests Inconsistency between projects (APIs etc) Confusion around the “big tent” vs “defcore” OpenStack demand still growing faster than talent pool Actions Discuss during Defcore committee agenda item in today’s board meeting; mid-cycle this week Foundation hiring cross project & app dev coordinators Working with TC, UC to explain tags with a visualization system, and in discussions with projects looking to join “big tent” Making good progress with certification; see subsequent slides Cross project divergence means: headaches for operators and barriers for app ecosytem development

7 10/04/12 Summary: 2H Year Focus Continuing interoperability and product testing mission Building the tools & application ecosystem Clearing up confusion around the “big tent” vs “defcore” Addressing the talent gap

12 Validating Compatible Products
10/04/12 Validating Compatible Products

13 10/04/12 Current State We have “Powered”, “Compatible” and “Training” licensing programs today for products and services wishing to use the OpenStack TM We added validation & testing for “Powered” products in May based on policy set by DefCore, which will continue to evolve over time Now we have an opportunity to apply similar testing requirement to “Compatible” program

14 Why is it important to validate “compatible” products?
10/04/12 Why is it important to validate “compatible” products? Interop, integration and product validation stories have been strongly resonating with industry analysts, press and users Creating a more consistent user experience is very important Specifically, upstream community has made big strides in requiring CI (Continuous Integration) testing for drivers (think Cinder, Neutron, Nova) By tying that testing to the logo licensing program, we ensure that “Compatible” has a meaning, create a stronger incentive for companies to invest in testing and align with the efforts of the PTLs to ensure upstream quality

15 10/04/12 Proposed Next Steps Work with upstream community to maintain source of truth for technologies tested with CI, most likely by cleaning up driverlog For OpenStack Compatible products that use drivers, we will now require those products be tested through CI in order to meet the existing logo and product naming terms around “demonstrating compatibility” Additionally, allow new naming format for companies that want to brand their driver i.e. “Widget driver for OpenStack”

16 Professional Certification Update
10/04/12 Professional Certification Update

17 Brief History; Why Professional Certification?
10/04/12 Brief History; Why Professional Certification? The talent gap is one of our biggest hurdles to adoption, cited by many industry reports (like 451 Research) as a major TCO variable Board previously approved Foundation effort to create baseline professional certification program Foundation does not intend to enter into the training business, rather support and promote the training ecosystem Baseline professional certification test is intended to be target for curriculum of training companies, but companies are also welcome to create more advanced certification programs based on their own products or distributions We recently toured Budapest, Istanbul, London, Tel-Aviv and Berlin for OpenStack Days events and meetups, and were consistently asked about opportunities for training and professional certification. Board approved certification program in August 2013 board meeting:

18 Making Significant Progress
10/04/12 Making Significant Progress Signed agreement with Linux Foundation to accelerate creation and administration of baseline certification testing Established rigorous, cross-community working group with representatives from many companies, to establish curriculum: Team created skills assessment survey to be distributed across the community First target is “OpenStack Certified Administrator” Expect to announce program at Tokyo Summit and roll out first certification mid-2016

19 Thanks for your support!
