2 Facts about the Pueblo The Pueblo live around New Mexico
The name Pueblo means village in Spanish There are nineteen different Pueblo tribes with their own names Some of the Pueblo tribes names are: Acoma, Cochiti, Isleta, Jemez, and San Felipe

3 Government Each Pueblo has its own government, laws and police.
The Pueblo’s in New Mexico belonged to a confederation called the all Indian pueblo council. The Pueblo Native Americans had a theocratic government. Because of that the Caque also known as the high priest, was the town chief. Today the pueblos are led by an elected governor and tribal council.

4 Women and Children Pueblo children played with Kachina dolls, toys, and games. They went to school and helped around the house like us today. Pueblo mothers would carry their babies on their back with a cradle board. Many American parents do this today. Pueblo woman were in charge of the house and the children. The men were in charge of politics, agriculture, and defending their tribe. Pueblo’s are well known for their beautiful pottery and heishi jewelry.

5 Hunting and War Hunters from the Pueblo tribe used bow and arrows for bow-fishing. During a war, pueblo men would fire their arrows and use spears. The Pueblo’s tools were wooden hoes and rakes for agriculture, and spindles and loom for weaving cotton and later on wool. Some of the weapons the Pueblo used are knives, bow and arrows, tomahawks, war clubs, blowguns, bolas, swords, and spears.

6 Agriculture The Pueblo's were experts at farming.
Their crops included corn, beans, squash, and sunflowers. The Pueblo's also grew tobacco and cotton. Some of the Pueblo recipes were popcorn, corn bread and soup.

7 Shelter The Pueblo's lived in house called pueblos.
The houses were made of Adobe, clay and straw baked into bricks. Pueblo houses can hold an entire extended clam Many Pueblo houses still used today

8 Religion Nature worship Many gods – polytheistic
Kachinas – spirits that control nature Kivas- underground chambers used for religious ceremonies Priest were the most important people
