5. The escape to America
1. Bich is 9 months old and the family (uncles, father, the sisters, Noi) escape Saigon on an American battle ship.
2. The family is in refugee camps for months until they are sponsored and moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan.

6. Rosa
2 years after the family moves to Grand Rapids Bich’s father meets Rosa.
A few months after Rosa becomes a mother figure to Bich and Ahn.
Crissey (Rosa’s daughter) is introduced to the family
Bich’s father and Rosa marry.
2 months later Vinh is born
