4 What is soil? It is the accumulation of loose, weathered material
The material from which soil is formed is called parent material.

5 Two types of soil Residual Soil - formed from parent material ( bedrock under the soil) Transported Soil - soil that has been moved from one area to another by erosion. Most soil on the Earth's surface is transported.

6 Climate and Soil More weathering = deeper soil
Farmers need a deep layer of organic material for their crops

7 Soil Profile Soil will form horizontal layers called soil horizons.
A- Horizon is called topsoil B and C Horizon is subsoil

8 Soil Composition Rock material
in soil contains three parts: sand, silt, and clay. Organic material- humus Decaying plant and animal remains
