4 New South Wales Location: State on the east coast of Australia. Australian Capital Territory - Sydney! (5th largest, 1st most populous) Climate Types: Arid (severe lack of available water) to Semi Arid (receives below to "normal" precipitation) Industries: Information technology and financial services Natural Resources: Hay, Fruit, Maize, Nuts, Wool, Wheat, Oats, Poultry, Rice, Vegetables, Fish & Forestry Fun Fact: Hugh Jackman (X-Men) & Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) are from here!!!

6 Northern Territory Location: Central Northern Regions (3rd largest, least populous) Climate Types: North: Tropical (high humidity and two seasons - wet and dry) Central: Desert (semi-arid) Industries: Tourism - iconic destinations for domestic and international travellers to diverse landscape, waterfalls, wide open spaces, aboriginal culture, & wild and untamed wildlife Natural Resources: Mining for energy producing minerals (petroleum and energy) Fun Fact: Ayers Rock, or Uluru, is located in the South-West corner!!!

8 Queensland Location: North-east of the country (2nd largest & 3rd most populous- referred to as "Sunshine State") Climate Types: 5 predominant climatic zones (hot humid summer, warm dry winter (far north and coastal), warm humid summer, mild dry winter (coastal elevated areas and coastal south-east), hot dry summer, mild dry winter (central west and far west), hot dry summer, cool dry winter (southern west), & warm humid summer, cold dry winter (elevated south-eastern areas)) Industries: Tourism (Daintree National Park, Sunshine Coast...) and Mining (bauxite, coal, silver, lead, zinc, gold, and copper) Natural Resources: bananas. pineapples, peanuts & a wide variety of tropical and temperate fruit & vegetables Fun Fact: Home to the Great Barrier Reef, one of the wonders of the world!!!

10 South Australia Location: South Central Territory (4th largest, 5th in population) Climate Types: Southern part of the state has a Mediterranean climate, while the rest of the state has either an Arid or Semi-Arid climate. Industries: Automotive, Meat, Machinery, Metal and Petroleum Products Natural Resources: Agriculture, Horticulture, Aquaculture, Fisheries (relies on exports more than any other state in Australia!!) Fun Fact: Koalas and Kangaroos are found in the Adelaide Hills!!! Australian Sea Lions & Dolphins are found off Kangaroo Island!!!!

12 Western Australia Location: Occupies the entire western third of Australia (largest state, 4th in population) Climate Types: southwest coastal area has a Mediterranean climate (Sterling Range sometimes gets snow!) Industries: Nations largest oil refinery, shipbuilding, cement and building products, flour milling, food processing, animal feed production, automotive body building, and printing. Natural Resources: Petroleum, Gold, Diamonds, Aluminum, Nickel and Iron Ore Fun Facts: One of the top six regions for marine biodiversity containing the most southerly coral reefs in the world!!! Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) was from here!!!

14 Victoria Location: state in the south-east of Australia (6th biggest, 2nd in population) Climate Types: ranges from Semi-Arid Temperate with hot summers in the north-west, to Temperate and cool along the coast Industries: Mining, energy producing, machinery and equipment manufacturing Natural Resources: Oil, gas, wheat, barley, pears, apples, asparagus, broccoli, carrots, potatoes and tomatoes Fun Fact: Some tourist attractions include Melbourne and the Twelve Apostles!!! Chris & Liam Hemsworth (Thor & The Hunger Games)!!

15 Tasmania

16 Tasmania Location: island state south of the Australian mainland (26th largest island in the world, 7th in land & 6th in population) Climate Types: Cool temperate climate with four distinct seasons (winter, spring, summer, fall) Industries: Mining, agriculture, forestry, and tourism Natural Resources: Copper, zinc, tin, iron, saffron & cherries Fun Fact: Over a third of the state is reserved in a network of National Parks and the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area!!!
