5 Homework Support your child when they do English homework by reading over their work and pointing out any spelling or punctuation mistakes.

6 Reading for Pleasure Encourage reading for pleasure. Students who regularly read develop a wider understanding and vocabulary and are statistically much more likely to do well in all academic subjects. All students should read for at least 15 minutes before going to sleep every night.

7 Model Reading Model reading by doing it yourself and sharing books or newspaper articles with your child.

8 Talk! Encourage discussion and debate. Challenge your child to explain their views clearly and in detail.
