3 What is the Internet? The internet is a global network of millions of computers that are linked to share information, news and opinions. Web pages are written in a special computer language so we use a program like Internet Explorer to translate the web page into a form that is easy to read. Anyone can create a webpage!

4 Internet Safety – Reliable Sites
Not everything you see on the internet is correct or true. A reliable site is one created by a company or organization you trust Anyone can make a website. Watch out for opinions that are presented as facts, especially on science pages. Many websites contain information that is incorrect.

5 Protecting Your Personal Information
The internet is usually not private. Be careful about giving out your private information Think before you give out information about your credit cards or banks. Make sure you are on a reliable site. Only shop at stores you recognize or trust.

6 Protecting Your Children
Watch you children while they are on the internet. Have the computer in a public place. Find out their passwords and log-in names for MySpace and FaceBook You can get computer programs that stop children from going to certain sites. These are great for when you are unable to see yourself.
