CRTPA Professional Designation Strategy 2017

2 Background The Circuit Rider Trainer Professional Association (CRTPA), continues to explore and develop strategies for professional designation. Professional designation will distinguish association members as a distinct group, recognized as professional trainers and mentors to First Nation adult learners in the specialized fields of Water Resource, Water Recovery and Building Systems Technology. Profession-wide designation external to the Circuit Rider Trainer Professional Association is preferred, done by an independent body with an expected level of recognition in competency gained by members. One reviewing body for Water/Wastewater and another for Building Maintenance trainers. WHERE TO START?

17 Seeking Resources in Education
In conclusion we shall review the latest survey data after the 2017 CRTPA AGM has ended. This years’ survey was part of the 2017 membership renewal and registration process. We asked about your currently training and what relevant training you would be interested in receiving as Circuit Rider Trainers. The data collected will help us determine the nature of the training needed. We shall assess available resources for training and develop a recommended list of educational opportunities then distribute it to the CRTPA membership. Please send suggestions and provide what information you can regarding education resources relevant to work in Building Maintenance and Water/Wastewater training.

19 What Have We Discovered?
Feasibility of professional designation evaluated against the education, experience, and competency of the CRTPA membership has found that the requirements in professional designation options present challenges. Professional Designation Options: Environmental Professional (EP) in “Education and Training” by Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) of Canada, and possible Building Operator designation by ECO Canada (2011 labour market research study!), Professional Operator (PO) by Association of Boards of Certification (ABC), Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT® ) by Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI) Canada, The Building Officials' Association of British Columbia (BOABC) , or similar
