1 Glasgow 5th of March         By Edwin Morgan :)

2 With a ragged diamond, of shattered plate glass, a young man and his girl, are falling backwards into a shop window. Ragged Diamond - Oxymoron, with ragged being chipped and cheap.  Diamond being smooth-cut and expensive.  could it be a jewlers, could link to marriage/engagement  Shattered - Onomatopeia, their hopes and dreams shattered.  "Shattered plate" harsh sounding, putting more emphasis on the 't'.  ''plate glass'' - tough glass are falling - present tense, its like someone is watching them. The young man's face, is bristling with fragments of glass, and the girl's leg has caught, on a broken window, and spurts artrial blood, over her wet - look coat.  Bristling with fragments of glass - gives an image of a beard of glass.  Bristling - onomatopeia.

3 caught - gives an horrific image, like she has been hunted and has been caught - ripped out of a shard of glass Spurts arterial blood - ''spurts'' harsh sounding word - more emphasis on the 'p' and 't'        Word choice - serious injury.  'spurts' - onomatopeia Wet - look white coat - When consaninse is said, its like her heart beat, her blood coming out.  the white coat gives us the imagery of surgery - hospital

4 "Their arms are starfished out braced for impact, their faces show surprise, shock and the beginning of pain". Starfished- This metaphor suggestes the yopung peoples limbs flung out in all directions, entering the window. The comparison suggests vunerabilityof their bodies and adds to the instamatic nature of the poem. Also starfishes limbs grow back when they get cut off but the couples will not. Another link would be the contrast of starfish moving very slow and the couple falling back fast. Their faces  - This is repeated later on in the poem  and shows the contrast between the attackers and the victims. Beginning - The word beginning suggests that their will be more pain to come.

5 "The two youths have pushed them are about to complete the operation
"The two youths have pushed them are about to complete the operation. Reaching into the window to loot what they can smartly. Their faces show no emotion" Operation - The word "operation" in this context means a well executed plan. The connotations are of medical operations, which the couple will probably need. Loot - The word is a comical word for robbery giving the impression that the thieves do not take their actions seriously. Their faces - Repeats the idea of facial expressions and shows the robbers indifferent.

6 Sauchiehall street is alliteration which makes it stand out more.
Stanza 5/6 "Their faces show no expression"is a repitition of what was mentioned above except it contasts with it and instead mentions that they showed no emotions rather than the couple who "show surprise, shock" There is no rhyme in the last two stanzas. When it mentions that the two men keep their eyes on the road this suggests to the reader that this is either a common occurence or the two people do not care about it. "It is a sharp, clear night" again references to the glass that the two lovers smash through, "sharp" of cource referencing to it when it cut them.
