3 What is the Longhorn Dance Team?
We are 7th and 8th grade dancers who help promote school spirit! We… Perform at various school functions Compete in local competitions Prepare for high school drill team

4 Where do we perform? First Day of School pep rally
2 football games (1 7th & 1 8th) All basketball halftimes Solo contest in December Couple of team contests in Spring (Ex: Kpark) Spring shows/other events TBD

5 When will we practice? Summer Fall: Thursday mornings
Optional open gym on various dates throughout summer Mandatory Camp: August 8-10 (All day) Mandatory Practice: 8/15 AM & 8/23 PM *Officers may have additional times Fall: Thursday mornings Possible occasional Saturday mornings Possible occasional after school Spring: Class (4th period) Counts as either an athletic credit or a fine arts credit

6 What is the financial obligation?
Uniform & Warm-Up Jacket: ~ $250 Practice Wear: ~ $100 ** Competition Fees: TBD based on team size Costume Fee: TBD Camp Fee: TBD (Cost of food only) Team T-shirt: ~ $15 **1 leotard and jazz shoes will be required; All other practice wear is parent choice. (Must be a black leotard and black leggings)

7 Am I eligible to tryout? Must not have been academically ineligible for 2 or more grading periods during the school year (Below a 70 on report card) Must have a physical on file

8 What do I need to tryout? Completed tryout packet
Tryout Fee of $20 paid on Revtrak (nonrefundable) Physical turned into Coach Sisco Tryout packet is posted under Dance tab in Activities See Mrs. Perucca for a hard copy Tryout packet is due to Mrs. Brod by 4:00 on Friday, 5/5 $20 must be paid Revtrak by 4:00 on Friday, 5/5 Physical is due to Coach Sisco by 4:00 on Friday, 5/5 Absolutely no late paperwork/fees accepted

9 When are tryouts? Monday 5/8: Tryout Clinic 4:00-6:00
Tuesday 5/9: Tryout Clinic 4:00-6:00 Wednesday 5/10: Mock Tryouts 4:15-end Friday 5/12: Tryouts 5:15-end* *Note: all candidates must stay until dismissed in case judges request a callback

10 How do tryouts work? Monday & Tuesday: Mandatory Tryout Clinic (Technique and learning combination) Wednesday: Optional Mock tryout Friday: Tryout Dancers will tryout in groups of 3 or 4 to qualified judges Judges results are final and will be posted under Dance tab in Activities

11 Who are the judges? 3 individuals with significant experience in dance/drill team either as teachers, directors, or former dancers

12 What am I being judged on?
Appearance (5 pts) Showmanship (10 pts) Memory (10 pts) Fluidity/Coordination (15 pts) Flexibility (10 pts) Overall Technique (40 pts) Judge’s score out of 90 points Principal Evaluation (10 pts)

13 What skills do I need to have for tryouts?
Tryout Skills may include but are not limited to: Left/Right Leaps Left/Right Double Pirouettes Left/Right Chaine Turns Left/Right Pique Turns Splits High Kicks etc.

14 What should I wear for tryouts?
Black leotard or black fitted tank top Black leggings or shorts Hair pulled back (ponytail or bun) No jewelry For clinic/mock tryouts: Must have on a leotard or fitted top (cannot just wear a bra)

15 How do I tryout for officer?
Officers will assist with choreography, technique, conditioning, class, and other leadership duties Officers will be rated on a variety of areas including leadership during tryout clinic, leadership quality paragraph, and officer tryout performance

16 How do I tryout for officer?
Paragraph With your tryout packet you must include on the page provided a written paragraph response to the prompt given This paragraph will be rated on a scale of 1-10 by Mrs. Brod Clinic Leadership During the tryout clinic all officer candidates will be rated on a scale of 1-10 on evidence of leadership throughout the clinic (role model, assisting others, etc.) by the director Tryout All officers will tryout twice. The first time is the typical tryout all candidates go through. The second time will be a similar routine with more advanced technique. There will also be time to demonstrate choreography or other skills. The 3 judges will each rate the officer on a scale of 1-10. These ratings will be added together for a maximum score of 50. The 4-6 highest scores will be named officer. Within the 4-6 scores the second highest will be named Co-Captain, and the highest will be named Captain.

18 Is there a handbook? Yes! Our goal is teach and train students to hopefully become members of the drill team in high school, as well as leaders in school and community The handbook outlines general expectations as well as demerit system I encourage parents and students to review it fully before trying out as you will be bound by the policies once a member
