Outline Your Book!

2 Recap of Module 2 By now you should have: Created your avatar
Written your book plan for what you want this book to do for your practice/business Written your book title & subtitle Written your back cover copy

3 Topics of today’s call Outline your book using an easy template!
Remember, your book should transform by 1. Removing pain 2. Gaining a desired benefit It should take the readers from where they are now, to where they want to be.

4 Sections: Introduction
1. State the problem. (People are suffering from back pain) 2. State how your book will help solve that problem. 3. Describe what’s in the book. (Write questions for yourself & address briefly) 4. Write a 1-2 page summary

5 Chapter 1: Why I wrote this book
This is your hero’s story (if this applies to you) – about 2-5 pages.

6 Tips: Use emotional language
Paint a picture of your journey, your struggles

7 Yes, but… Will this work for me?
That’s the #1 question people ask. Be sure to explain how it will! (start by stating who the book is for – which starts with your avatar)

8 Chapters 2-5 – The Problem
(can be more or fewer chapters) 1. List the main topics related to your problem. Each one will be a chapter. 2. Take each topic separately. Write down as many questions as you can think of.

9 Research more questions…
Amazon: check for books on your topic. Use the “look inside” feature to see the chapter headings.

10 Chapters 2-5… 3. Make notes of your answers. -Be as brief or detailed as you like -List everything you want to tell your readers about this aspect of the problem.

11 Chapters 5-8: Your Solution
**The secret to making the writing EASY** Think in STEPS or STAGES! 5 steps to…3 stages of…8 ways to… Each one will be a chapter.

12 Write your Steps Take each step separately.
Write questions about this step. Think of “WH” questions: -who, what, where, how, why, how Write brief notes for yourself about the answer to each.

13 Stories, anecdotes, case studies
Stories give life to your book! Anecdotes, case studies, stories about you or your patients/clients…success stores Lead with your stories, wrap your chapters around them, sprinkle them generously like chocolate chips

14 What we covered today: Easy template to outline your book:
1. Write the introduction + hero story 2. Write the chapter headings for 3 or more problems related to your topic 3. Write the answers to the problems, in note form that you can use for recording

15 Write in steps… 4. Write the chapter heading for the solutions – (as many chapters as you need) 5. Write questions about these solutions 6. Write the answers to the problems, in note form that you can use for recording

16 Homework Follow the template and write Introduction and hero story
Chapter headings for problems Chapter headings for solutions Questions for each chapter Answers, in note form, for chapter Voila – your book is outlined and ready to record!
