easy to go to 9 days /three SL
What we learnt: 15 days were taken in CIEMAT to assemble three SL of a MB2 chamber in parallel on the three tables 10 w.d. were spent at LNL to assemble 2 SL in parallel on 2 tables (Sept.) easy to go to 9 days /three SL No,or negligible, problem with gas tightness and HV (18 SL tested, 5400 wires) Still not a large experience on the time needed for the full test of a SL : however the first 3 SL assembled in LNL could be set to the nominal voltages after two days of conditioning. ( 9 days are planned for the SL test: gas tight./HV/rates) CMS WEEK Sept 24 Opening session CMS Muon fabrizio

THE CMS ALIGNMENT SYSTEM
Basic elements 4 indipendent Link systems (A,B,C,D) relate couples of local rigid structures in the MU and in the Tracker. The 4 Links are “bolted” together: via the Tracker Internal System via the Endcap Links and Radial Lines Alignment scheme A A B D C The chambers are located with respect to the local rigid structures (muon MABs & tracker Align.”Wheels”) The full system should be able to give a starting position of the chambers within 500/100 micron (MU/Tracker) and monitor relative displacements of 100/20 micron (20 microrad misalignment MU/Tracker) D

MAB Prototype (Barrel Alignment)
CERN: Design and specs. INEGI (Portugal): Prototype(s) fabrication Drawings for the pre-production prototype are ready. Material is ordered and partially delivered (all available by end of Sept.) Assembly table to be built (and be completed by mid Nov.) Prototype ready for test by beginning of December. CMS WEEK Sept 24 Opening session CMS Muon fabrizio

Layout of the Tracker Alignment System and Link with the Muon Alignment
Design of the 2D Si sensor 6x2 Laser beams (ray 1) provides the linking with the Muon System CMS WEEK Sept 24 Opening session CMS Muon fabrizio
18
Performance/ISR test The major test was performed at ISR:
good results for LINK and Endcap more problematic for Barrel because of the lack of a real MAB, the Barrel need the Endcaps Link Lines to align the MABs of the active planes.
19
For ME2, 3 layers... 1) Mapping the layer with 3 SLMs (6 chambers per layer). 2) Alignment by tracks for overlapping chambers (3-5 strips overlap)
20
In summary: The Barrel and Endcap systems are well in track. No major technical problem is foreseen. Schedule looks feasible. Link with the Tracker has been integrated within the TK internal alignment design. Technical work, including thermal transition and integration issues, is in progress.
