3 Our Year… Aims: To deliver a broad and varied curriculum

4 Our Year … P.E – begins when the children start staying to 2pm
(October) - Year 1 P.E. is on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. - In Year 1 we only need gym shoes! If your child is absent, please send in a note the next time they are in school with a reason for absence. Please send ALL notes and monies in separate, named envelopes, with your child and not a sibling. i.e After schools, charity events and snack in different envelopes. When Reading begins you child will be heard reading in class twice a week (either Monday & Wednesday, or Tuesday & Thursday), meaning they will have two books a week to read at home. We appreciate your comments in their diaries. When Home Learning begins (October), the homework will be sent home on a Monday and does not need to be returned until the Thursday of that week.

5 Our Year … Jolly Phonics: We invite all parents to our ‘Jolly Phonics’ afternoon at the end of September (date to be confirmed) This is a session which allows us to inform you of the way we teach the ‘sounds’ and reading in Year 1. We give out phonics resources to help your child at home and so would encourage you to attend, as the information session is very beneficial for Home Learning. There will be two parent/teacher interview sessions throughout the year (the first around October and the second in March) We very much operate an open doors policy where we are always here to be approached should there be any concern or query. Our door is always open but please sign in at office first. Appointments can be arranged but please note that we teach KS1 and KS2 classes from 2 – 3 pm.

6 Our Year … Behaviour: We operate a positive behavioural policy where
children agree to a ‘class charter’ : This is an agreement of appropriate behaviour : Rewards are given for following the class charter such as ‘table point’ prizes and stickers : Breaking part of the class charter means a warning is given (amber traffic light) where the child can work their way to red if inappropriate behaviour continues. Consequences include the teacher choosing their play activity rather than the child or 5 minutes ‘time out’ at lunch. : Similarly they can work their way from amber back down to green and never have to be on red!
