3. Biography Elijah McCoy
Elijah McCoy (1843–1929) invented an oil-dripping cup for trains.
Fast Fact: Other inventors tried to copy McCoy's oil- dripping cup. But none of the other cups worked as well as his, so customers started asking for "the real McCoy." That's where the expression comes from.

4. The McCoy's were fugitive slaves who had escaped from Kentucky to Canada via the underground railroad.
A large family came and settled in United states in 1847.
Elijah was strongly interested in mechanics.
He studied mechanical engineering at age of 15 in Scotland.
He could not find any work because of racial barriers. As he was African-American he could not get a good profession job.

5. His Starting Career
McCoy worked as a fireman and oil changer at Michigan Central Railroad.
While working he started to study about the inefficiencies inherent in the existing system of oiling axles.

6. McCoy patented more than 50 inventions, none more famous than his automatic oil cup.
He got his first patent for the device, which enabled trains to travel continuously without having to stop for oiling.
There were many imitations of McCoy's oil cup, but engineers knew that the model based on McCoy's design was the best of its kind.
