We are guests in this building Use the main stairwells (front hall, end of main hall, stairs in 100/200/300 pod) Areas off limits: Gym area; Tech halls, 1st floor classroom hallways ( reserved for Camp I Can) Lockers/storage areas are not ours for use Point to general areas… Mention that there are others sharing the building with us this summer. We ask them to stay in their areas and we expect our students to stay in our areas. You are to remain on your floor during class time unless your class is using the library and/or computer lab.

6 Behaviour Every student is expected to respect other students' right to a safe and supportive learning environment. We have a zero tolerance policy Summer school is a privilege not a right. Failure to follow the rules will result in removal from the program.

7 Daily Schedule Bells will be used to indicate changes. Time

Refreshment sales only during the long break. Staff and students are expected to wait for the bell to indicate a change between sessions. Bells will be used to indicate changes.

8 Attendance All students are required to be in class and ON TIME each day of Summer School. One unacceptable absence may result in withdrawal from the Summer School program. Teachers- Remember to sign in the folder when you arrive- ensure coverage is not required. Repeat – even one absence may result in your removal from summer school.

9 Attendance Late to school? Leaving early? Late from the Break
Report to class- teacher will enter late arrival Late from the Break You need an admit slip from the SS office before you will be admitted to class Leaving early? You must sign-out from the main office. Again, point to the main office area. Mention – under 18 years old and you must have parental permission.

10 Absences/Lates You are absent if you are not at school
You are late if you are not 100% in class when the bell rings Teachers are to send students late from the break to the main office for an admit slip Stress this for staff and students. Explain that teachers are following the rules when they send students to the office for being late. There is no such thing as being sort-of-late…You are either in class when the bell goes or you are late.

11 Attendance - Teachers Please ensure that the students in your class physically are on your list. Ensure that you don’t have extra students in your class and that everyone is on your list. Do not add students to your attendance form without a note from the office. Every late is equal to half an absence. Explain to teachers the need to be clear and accurate when completing attendance.

12 Assessment & Evaluation
Summer school standards are the same as those in your day school You must complete a final exam to earn a credit Review the course outline for details Students should expect the same curriculum as they have in regular day school. Teachers will be covering material, assessing and evaluating students. Students will be expected to review and learn – both in class and on their own time. Homework will be expected and needs to be completed. Again, we are here for your success…and will help and support you.

13 Academic Integrity Students are expected to submit original work.
Students who seek to attain academic advantage or help someone else obtain such advantage through cheating will receive a grade of zero. Cheating is…[list from the handbook]. The first time we catch you cheating you receive a zero and we add notes to the SIS so that your day school is aware. If you have cheated before (ie. SIS has notes on this) or this is not the first time that you are caught cheating in SS then you will be withdrawn.

14 IEPs If you have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) you must provide a copy to your teacher to receive accommodations. We want to support you and need you to let us know if there are any special circumstances that would help. If you have an IEP you need to let us know. Unlike day school we don’t know that you have an IEP.

15 Clothing Students are to wear clothing that is neat, clean and appropriate for school. Shoes must be worn for health and safety reasons. Teachers and students are reminded that too much skin is unacceptable. The building has air conditioning and you can be fully covered. No short shorts, tight pants, low cut tops, tight and revealing clothing…we also don’t want to see your underwear so please keep pants pulled up to your waist.

16 Clothing The wearing of hats, bandanas, or other headgear in halls or classrooms is not allowed at Summer School. Bandanas (and other displays of colours) are not permitted at Summer School. Failure to follow the clothing policy will result in your removal from the summer school program. The clothing policy applies to both males and females.

17 Textbooks & Resources All textbooks and supplies are on loan only for the duration of Summer School. Students will be charged for lost and/or damaged books/materials. Teachers are not to distribute textbooks until classes have stabilized – that means that textbooks should not be distributed until the 3rd or 4th day of summer school. Teachers need to track which student has which book – we will provide you with a class list to help with this. Students are reminded that they will need to return textbooks when they are done in the course – if you are dropping or being withdrawn you must return the books before you are ‘officially’ removed from the course. You are also expected to return any other school resources (library books, etc) before being removed from the course.

18 Electronic Devices Students may use PEDs in classrooms or other learning spaces for instructional purposes only, as long as their teacher has given express permission for the use of the device. Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) can be important teaching and learning tools.  Students may use PEDs in classrooms or other learning spaces for instructional purposes only, as long as their teacher has given express permission for the use of the device. Failure to follow this rule may result in removal from summer school.

19 Electronic Devices Cellular phones, and other PEDs can also be distracting and disruptive and should not be seen, worn, turned on and/or used in hallways or non-learning spaces during class time. Lets repeat this…Describe that cellular phones and PEDs are not to be seen, worn, turned on and/or used in hallways or non-learning spaces during class time (class time is the time that is defined as class time in the schedule).

20 Refreshments Available on both breaks in the cafeteria
Please eat in cafeteria or the main halls (1st floor only) Leaving school property is not recommended- late Please clean up after yourself Refreshment sales will only occur during the long break. There is no reason for staff/students to be in the cafeteria other than during the breaks. As guests in the building we expect that you will clean up after yourself. You DO NOT have enough time to leave school property to get refreshments so you will need to bring refreshments with you and/or buy refreshments on site.

21 Parking Students who bring a vehicle to school and park on school property do so at their own risk. Cars should be parked in the south parking lot (off of Great Lakes Drive). Point to the parking lots and describe them. Please remember that this is a school. You need to be extra careful when driving on school property.

22 Smoking It is against the law to smoke on school property.
a fine of $ from the Peel Health Department. Explain that students must leave school property if they are going to smoke. Off school property means that they must be, at a minimum, on the sidewalk. The field and parking lot are school property and will result in fines.
