2 Objectives Content: Students will know that many people struggled in many different ways during the Holocaust. Students will use evidence from the text to illuminate the theme of struggle Process: Students will use quotes from the text to write poems about the theme of struggle. Language: Students will read for evidence of struggle.

Mein Kampf  a book written by Adolf Hitler. “Mein Kampf” means “my struggle.” The book is an autobiography that in which Hitler describes his political ideals

9 Mein Kampf In this section of the novel, entitled “Mein Kampf,” or “My Struggle,” Hitler’s book about his own struggles is ironically used to show us the struggles of two people who are very different from him: Liesel, and a new Jewish character- Max.

10 Your Task: In groups, choose either Liesel or Max. Using your book, find quotes, words, and phrases that demonstrate this character’s struggle. Piece these excerpts together in ANY order (mix them up and get creative!) to create a poem about the character’s struggle.
