Yeah, not good enough.

President Andrew Jackson’s attitude toward Native Americans was patronizing.
He described them as children in need of guidance, and believed that the removal policy was beneficial to the Indians. According to his view removal would save Indian people from harassments of whites and would resettle them in the area where they could govern themselves in peace.

Chief Justice John Marshall Cherokee Leader Major Ridge In 1830 the Indian Removal Act was passed by Congress and signed by President Andrew Jackson. It authorized the US Government to begin the process of moving Native Americans west of the Mississippi River. 18 Chief Justice John Marshall Cherokee Leader Major Ridge We, the Cherokee, are a nation of people who will make our own decisions. We do not have to move from our home just because the whites want our land. We will challenge the Indian Removal Act in the courts. Cherokee Chief John Ross President Andrew Jackson 1930 Indian removal act passed Davy Crocket opposed and lost his political career over it -- you go to hell, I shall go to Texas Treaty signed with a small group of Cherokee in favor of moving for $5,000, passed Senate in one vote. Trail of Tears

Chief Justice John Marshall Cherokee Leader Major Ridge The Cherokee are a sovereign nation and cannot be forced to give up their land. (Worcester v. Georgia 1832) Cherokee Chief John Ross President Andrew Jackson 1930 Indian removal act passed Davy Crocket opposed and lost his political career over it -- you go to hell, I shall go to Texas Treaty signed with a small group of Cherokee in favor of moving for $5,000, passed Senate in one vote. Trail of Tears

Chief Justice John Marshall Cherokee Leader Major Ridge “John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it.” I won’t stop white settlers from moving onto Cherokee land.

Chief Justice John Marshall Cherokee Leader Major Ridge This is unfair. Why will the President not enforce a decision made by the US Supreme Court? Cherokee Chief John Ross President Andrew Jackson 1930 Indian removal act passed Davy Crocket opposed and lost his political career over it -- you go to hell, I shall go to Texas Treaty signed with a small group of Cherokee in favor of moving for $5,000, passed Senate in one vote. Trail of Tears

Chief Justice John Marshall Cherokee Leader Major Ridge What if we get the Cherokee to agree to a treaty and they voluntarily give up their land for $5 million dollars and land in Oklahoma? Cherokee Chief John Ross President Andrew Jackson 1930 Indian removal act passed Davy Crocket opposed and lost his political career over it -- you go to hell, I shall go to Texas Treaty signed with a small group of Cherokee in favor of moving for $5,000, passed Senate in one vote. Trail of Tears

Chief Justice John Marshall Cherokee Leader Major Ridge Although I’m not Chief, I lead a small faction of Cherokee. I’ll sign the treaty. The whites are moving in anyway and the best way to keep good relations with the US government is to move where they want us to.

Chief Justice John Marshall Cherokee Leader Major Ridge The Treaty of Echota passed the Senate by one vote. 7,000 soldiers arrived in 1838 to forcibly evict the Cherokee. I’ll use all of my political power to force through the treaty signed with Major Ridge through the US Senate.
