What is the most difficult thing about classroom discussion as a whole? Do you personally find it difficult? Explain your thoughts on the subject in general.

24 Examples: Let’s say your VLT has three pieces. They are all based around this prompt: What affect does arts education have on student success? How important do you feel the arts are for education? Now, let’s say your three articles are: Statistics about grade point averages of students in and out of the arts. A psychology article about the importance of creativity for a developing brain. An article about schools without arts in general.

25 Knowing all of this… Let’s say your VLT has three pieces. They are all based around this prompt: What affect does arts education have on student success? How important do you feel the arts are for education? Now, let’s say your three articles are: Statistics about grade point averages of students in and out of the arts. A psychology article about the importance of creativity for a developing brain. An article about schools without arts in general. Choose a side for this argument as a class. Now talk amongst yourselves and configure a good counterclaim for the argument you have chosen.

A Rebuttal is a refutation or contradiction to your counterclaim. Evidence must be used. Materials for this activity: Paper Pen/Pencil Cell Phone/electronic device

30 Directions: You will be given a list of claims and their respective counterclaims. You are to find an article on the internet to use as evidence for a rebuttal that you will be creating. Be sure to write neatly and copy down the website you used. In order to get full credit for this assignment– you need at least one quote to support every rebuttal.

31 For HW on 11/29 Whatever students did not finish of Rebuttal activity– they were asked to take a picture of it (it is also available on todays date) and they were to finish it at home.

32 Wednesday 11/30 Journal: Are you for or against standardized testing? Do you feel it actually demonstrates the students’ skill level? Give me a claim, counterclaim, and rebuttal. Explain your reasoning.

Rebuttal: But I know that it is ___Claim repeated and defended further.

40 AOW Instead of writing a 1 page reflection– I want for you to:
Make a claim about what the issue REALLY is based on the article. What is the author saying that the problem is based on what you read? Once you make your claim. Make a counterclaim and a rebuttal. So basically you are making an introduction and a counterclaim/rebuttal paragraph. Hint: If you need a little extra guidance– take a look at your yellow sheet.
