History: The word Volcano comes from the Romans. The God of Fire, Vulcan, was believed to have resided on the island of Volcano where he forged weapons for the Gods of Olympus. Definition: 1. An opening in the crust of the Earth from which magma and gases escape to the surface. 2. The mountain that is formed from volcanic processes. © (Photo)

3 Classification Active- currently erupting or have erupted recently. (greater than 500 volcanoes) Dormant- not currently erupting but are considered likely to do so. Mt.
