19 Romeo’s Paradoxical Diction
paradox –noun 3. any person, thing, or situation exhibiting an apparently contradictory nature. 1) How could you say that Romeo himself is an example of entry #3 in the definition of paradox? What is Shakespeare’s purpose in characterizing Romeo a paradox? (this is your essay topic tomorrow)

20 Friday

21 Essay Expectations: Prompt: How and why does Shakespeare portray Romeo as a flawed hero? Need a strong claim with specific literary device(s) identified and their purpose Example claim: In order to characterize Romeo as a flawed hero early in the play, Shakespeare has Romeo use paradoxical diction to demonstrate his conflicted nature and his inability to reconcile his inner demons, which highlights the superficiality of his love for Juliet. Need at least 2-3 correctly cited quotes
