1 Introduction to Conservation of Energy
Monday, January 9, 2017

2 Monday, 1/9 Unit: Mechanical Energy
Take out your lab from Thursday Review the diagram below and determine which forces are perpendicular to and parallel to the object’s motion. Indicate what type of work each of the forces will produce (positive, negative, or no work). Upcoming dates Monday, 1/9 – Lab quiz, work/power quiz Friday, 1/13 – Lab quiz, conservation of energy quiz Wednesday, 1/18 – Lab quiz Friday, 1/20 – review due, unit quiz Tuesday, 1/24 – unit test

3 Monday, 1/9 Unit: Mechanical Energy

4 Review Lab

5 Lab Quiz – 8 minutes You must show all your work for calculations to earn credit (equation, substitution, solving with correct units). You must write in complete sentences to earn credit.

6 Work and Power Quiz – 10 minutes
Make sure you show all your work, include units, and direction of the object.

7 Conservation of Energy Notes
Read, and highlight your CNs. When you get to example problem #1 stop.

8 Conservation of Energy 1 practice

9 Home work Finish conservation of energy 1 if applicable.

10 Cool Down How would you approach finding the value of energy if you were given the mass, velocity at which the object is moving, and the object’s height (there are no outside forces acting on the object within the system)? List the steps you would take (be specific).
