Quiz, motion, CER Tuesday, August 30, 2016

Unit 0: Science skills Tuesday, 8/30 Review the graph below and make three observations and describe the story of the object’s motion. Upcoming important dates  Friday, 8/26 – summer assignment quiz due  Tuesday, 8/30 – science skills quiz, summer assignment due  Thursday, 9/1 – science skills test

Unit 0: Science skills The y-intercept represents the initial position of the object The object is moving at a constant rate (velocity). The object’s motion has both a magnitude and a velocity. The object is moving away from the point of reference Story: the object is moving a defined distance in a defined time. I can define where an object is going, where it has been, and Predict where it will go. Position vs. time graph

How it relates…Bowling Ball

Accelerated motion  Think back to the acceleration lab  What’s happening to the velocity of the ball at each time interval? Why?

What we know  If the velocity is changing the object is accelerating; meaning the slope is changing. Velocity is Instantaneously Changing Velocity is changing over time. Parabolic

Describing motion  Rate; speeding up or slowing down  Direction; moving forward (away reference point) or backwards (towards the reference point)from the reference point.

Quiz Preparation  Make sure your summer assignment has your name on it and send it up to your row leader.  You will have 30 minutes to complete the quiz.  If you finish early pick up the motion homework and start the homework.

Preparing to discuss – 3 minutes  Make an observation about the graph.  Read the procedure for collecting the data.  Read the prompt and underline Daryl’s claims.

Discuss Daryl’s claims – 8 minutes  With your elbow partner discuss section ‘A’ and ‘B’.  Brainstorm and complete both sections.

CER -3 minutes  Use the CER process to complete section ‘c’ individually.

Peer Feedback -4 minutes

Pick up your CER and evaluate – 5 minutes

Revise CER – 5 minutes  Using your peer feedback

Share out  What parts of Daryl’s reasoning is correct?  What parts of Daryl’s reasoning was incorrect?  What was the most valuable piece of evidence to support your claim?

Describing Motion  Complete your describing motion practice.  Finish for homework if necessary.

Cool Down  What do you need to do to between today and test day to be successful on your test (refer to your ‘I can statements up to this point)
