2 Leadership What decisions will you make and what decisions can you delegate? What are the priorities for the colonists? What will allow us to survive? You have many problems to solve, but it will take each of your committees to help identify what those problems are exactly You need to figure out how to coordinate the tasks of your competing committees

3 Rules Can we get along without rules?
What rules must we have to achieve success? How will we enforce our rules? Remember, each colonist was carefully chosen and they are supposed to be reliable people

4 Security You have 50 muskets and plenty of ammunition, powder, etc
You have 20 pistols with ammunition and powder You have two small cannon (It takes two men to man the cannon) with plenty of ammunition and powder, etc. You have 25 swords and 25 sets of chest armor and helmets

5 Equipment / Shelter -30 Shovels
-Hardware: ie, hammers, saws, nails, hinges for construction of the first 20 buildings -You have enough tents for every family -Cookware, ie pots and pans with enough spares for some trading -Blacksmith shop -Construction parameters: Family Housing: -House for 6-8 family members (6 laborers x 7 days) -Larger house for people (6 laborers x 9 days) -Barn ; church; meeting house; school (10 laborers x 7 days) -All other simple structures (4 laborers x 7 days) -Fort (15 laborers x 14 days) may be used as temporary shelter area -You have an ample supply of hoes, hand-plows, and 2 cow-drawn plows

6 Food / Drink Plan for 2lbs of food per person per day on average
1 Deer will provide 50lbs of food Fishing may yield up to 30lbs of food per day, but requires 2 full-time fishermen…fish may be salted and stored for use during the winter You have the first 180 days of supply of food; expect a resupply ship in 180 days with the same amount of food (this ship may or may not come in!) Plan on 1 gallon of water per person per day for cooking There are nearby fresh water springs, but water must be carried to camp and stored For every 10 acres of crops, you need 2 full time laborers (1 acre will yield 50 lbs of food per harvest; 1 harvest per year) It will take six workers a full day to clear on acre of land for planting Once land is prepared and crops are planted, it will take 2 laborers working full time for every 10 acres of land -12 cattle; 2 bulls (milk and/or meat); Expect to receive 4 cows per month from the South Carolina colony (slaughtering one cow provides 250 pounds of meat)

7 Negotiators No Spanish language interpreter
The Spanish are located somewhere to our south…not sure how far No-one in our group speaks Yamacraw (the local tribal language) You have basic items for trading: beads, some tools, pots pans List your potential problems and come up with ideas about how to head them off
